I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke also known as UNCP, the home of the brave. It brings joy to my heart that you have chosen our campus to not only further your education but also to grow as an individual, find yourself, and make memories that will last for a lifetime.
As the 2015-2016 Student Body President of UNCP and as a peer student, I have key concepts that are vital to your journey as a Brave this year, and for the rest of your time here.
UNCP crowns itself as the most diverse public four-year university in the UNC system and in the Southeastern region. I employ you to branch out and meet new individuals different from yourself that are from all walks of life. Branching out and meeting new individual’s means getting involved.
No matter if you are a freshman, senior or anything in between the time is now and it is never too late to learn what drives you and learn what motivates you. Search for opportunities and search for personal and professional relationships. You can find your drive and motivation by utilizing the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership to find your organizations that are perfect for you. The office has over 90 student organizations registered, so you are likely to find your organization, and if not, you can create your own. If you have a passion to serve others and help the community, we have the Office of Community and Civic Engagement. In these offices and organizations, you may create a structural foundation for a relationship that will last for a lifetime. Relationships are necessary during ones college career, as they create a support system. With a support system, you will rise above any problem that comes your way. I employ you to use the experiences you have been afforded to further yourself intellectually and become the BRAVEST BRAVE you can be.
The Student Government Association, known as SGA, is an organization established to represent and safeguard the interests of students. We are here to assist the student body in ascertaining themselves and identifying their true potential as they start their journey of becoming a prominent leader in their community. We have multiple goals for the 2015-2016 year, but the biggest one is to create unity through our diversity and listen to the needs of the students, which is who we are meant to serve. Never hesitate to ask any question or to address any concern you may have with myself or other fellow student government senators. The Student Government Association has open meetings every Wednesday at 5:15pm during the academic year, in the University Center. We also have an office located on the second floor of the University Center Annex. We hope that you will visit us at your own leisure and that you find organizations that will add more of a driving force to your motivation, so you can have the true university experience you are meant to have.
So once more, I would like to welcome you to the Brave family. Remember, your experience is only as great and diverse as you make it here at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. So make it unforgettable.
